About Us

Caring for your eyes is our family business. Since the practice was established by James Reid Mackellar in 1936, we have provided eyecare for thousands of patients at Reid Mackellar Opticians, making us one of the most experienced opticians in Scotland.

Today, Reid Mackellar Opticians is still a family business, proud of its strong roots in the Inverclyde community. James Mackellar, son of our founder, qualified as an Optometrist in 1972 and joined the family business in 1973. James introduced contact lenses to the practice and expanded the business until 2006 when he passed its full-time management onto his own son, Campbell, a fully-qualified Optometrist. Campbell’s sister, Mhairi Mackellar, is a Dispensing Optician, who works part time at the practice.

In addition to the Mackellar clan, Reid Mackellar has a fantastic, friendly team of fully trained and qualified Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians and Optical Assistants to help you with all your eyecare needs.
